Day 1

To start off with, let’s first recognize the parents who droves us ALL to the airport, starting our day bright and early at 3:50 a.m. Aside from their commitment to prepare us  for such an unfavorable hour, our parents, mine in particular, assisted greatly with the packing aspect.  SPEAKING OF PACKING: Before we had even entered security, we had to “juggle” some luggage amongst some bags.  Once that issue was settled, the flight to Atlanta was rather uneventful, until we landed. IT WAS HOT AND HUMID.  Once taking off again for a much longer flight, I’ll admit I personally slept for 3 hours (I being “Jason”). Because this flight was longer than the 1st one, the majority of us fell asleep for half of the trip. When we landed in Costa Rica, we had to wait for a long time to get checked by customs.

After all of this, we realized that the weather was hot and humid, and throughout the bus trip to the restaurant we saw a lot of people celebrating Costa Rica’s win against Italy in the 2014 WORLD CUP. The national team has qualified to the next round of this event in a group with amazing teams such as Uruguay, England and Italy. Even when we were eating, we heard cheering, honking and waving Costa Rica flags all over the place. It was a great day for the locals and for us to visit.

After eating, we took the same bus to the FINCA LA ANITA; it was long trip because it was 2 hours and 30 minutes (with the last 30 min of dusty and bumpy road). When we got to the farm, we were impressed by the nice cabins and environment. We got a little over an hour to get unpacked and cozy in our new homes for the next week. After that, we met on “the porch”, where we picked out boots to wear from another room (due to stuff like coral snakes that could harm us if stepped on). After that, we were informed about safety information and other general information (we also got to taste homemade nuttela-similar spread made from cacao beans and Spanish almond cream) before setting out on a less-than-half-hour hike. Surprisingly, we got rained on near the end and most of us ended up soaked! Hence the word “rain forest”.   After drying off and taking a break, we had dinner of fish and vegies with pumpkin soup! Yum! Then we wrote this blog, and (except for us writers) headed off to bed. See you tomorrow with more exciting adventures!
